Cambodia is a country renowned for its difficult past. The Khmer Rouge is justifiably infamous. The political party devastated its own people while attempting to obliterate Cambodia's rich culture and intellectual property. Unfortunately, Cambodia is not as well known for its equally distinguished past. Angkor Wat and other Khmer temples are architectural phenomena and have baffled and amazed archaeologists for centuries. And Cambodia has recent successes to showcase as well. Few know that Cambodia boasts one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, second only to China.

Yet, despite these accomplishments, Cambodia is most certainly a country in transition. Poverty is both desperate and rampant. Resources and opportunities that we take for granted are appallingly scarce in this country. Not surprisingly, clean water, food and education are highly prized and intensely sought after. So much so that child prostitution and human trafficking are widespread and believed to be a necessary sacrifice for the survival of self and family.
Our team at Arjuni believes differently. We believe that women have other contributions to make and as such, we've made the following commitments :
1. Unlike common industry practice, we compensate our hair donors directly. It is the women, themselves, who receive payment in exchange for their hair. Not the religious institutions, not the holding companies, not the agents. Hair donors appreciate this opportunity as the earnings provide much-needed financial assistance for themselves and their families.
2. Partnering with the Life and Hope Association, we hire and train young women who were previously victims of child prostitution or human trafficking.
3. We dedicate 10% of all profits to the provision of clean water as well as cultivating alternatives to human trafficking and prostitution for women at risk within Cambodia.
Cambodia has made our venture possible and in return, we give back to Cambodia. Our name reflects that commitment. Arjuni is the name of a well known Apsara in Cambodian mythology. An Apsara is a celestial being known for her unparalleled beauty and grace. But few understand that before the Apsara transitions into her Goddess state, she must first dedicate herself to rigorous physical, intellectual and artistic development. She masters a variety of new skill sets that not only enhance her beauty, but also her confidence and well-being. While we certainly do our part to enhance our clients' beauty, we've also made a commitment to enhance the lives of our hair donors, our staff and those within our Cambodian community.
